More Background Info
When Bill returned to Cajun Country, we started training for a potential try-out. I had been a track athlete in college but that was several years and an ankle reconstruction away. Both Bill and I stayed in shape weightlifting but it was nothing compared to the training we started when he got back.
For a little over a year we sprinted, lifted, and sprinted our way into decent shape. We contacted the USBSF (the governing body of bobsled and skeleton) and told them we wanted to come out to one of their recruitment tour testing locations. We were told to go to Orlando to do a 4-item test for athletic ability. We were all set to go when Hurricane Ivan hit and cancelled the whole trip. Instead of going through the hassle of scheduling another trip we decided to do the 4-item test ourselves and have a track coach send in our results.
Within a couple days, we received an email inviting us out to a skeleton camp at the Olympic Training Center in December. The cost of the camp was quite expensive and we had to find our own way there. Despite those drawbacks, Bill and I booked our tickets and continued to prepare for the camp / try-out.
